“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” ~ Coretta Scott King
The mission of Happy Friday has always been to positively impact our community. For the final Friday of 2017 I wanted to highlight how we accomplished that:
We turned October into #Socktober and donated close to 300 pairs of socks and toiletries to homeless shelters and people in need. (Older article on the same initiative.)
My friend Rhandi and I raised over $11,015 for victims of the Thomas fire (!) This was used for temporary housing, vehicles, and basic need items.
My colleague and dear friend Anna Walsh took her expertise in psychology and wrote a short and insightful article on how studying the brain can help us understand ourselves and each other.
My former teacher and fellow beatnik Joe O'Brien and I went back and forth in a conversational format discussing and breaking down what mindfulness means in 2017.
To create conversation around race, gender, and prejudice, I wrote about the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the Women’s March, and the root of prejudice.
Thanks to everyone who got involved to make a difference in their communities- the world needed that. 2018 has more in store!
